Fireworks on Singapore 50th National Day Golden Jubilee Celebration
MRT and bus rides were free. The transfer from Marina South Station to the circle line to Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay was packed from every direction. We were in with the crowd to join in the celebration to capture fireworks on Singapore 50th national Day Golden Jubilee Celebration on 9 August 2015 at the Marina Bay Sands.

It was at a slow pace, and we finally managed to navigate to our destination at the water front over looking the financial district. At around 4 pm, we were blessed with the kindness of two families with kids and they let us have a spot to erect our tripod to mount an umbrella to shade us and them from the hot sun.
While the group of us were waiting for events to unfold, the crowd continued to build up behind us. At around 5:30 pm there was a sudden influx of people squeezing their way through to the water front trampling on the floor mats that families had laid out for their children. I was literally only able to stand on a square foot area and unable to move my feet. With one step backward, I will be stepping on a toddler sleeping behind me on the floor.

With all that behind us, I took the business skyline and the fireworks:

Going home was another challenge. with more than 100,000 spectators dispersing all at almost the same time. The Helix bridge was blocked for safety reason. We had to use the adjacent bridge to cross to Marina South from Marina Bay Sands.

We did it! We were part of the Singapore 50th National Day Golden Jubilee Celebration. While the crowd was overwhelming, it was rather orderly with MRT staff, army personnel and police force directing the spectators. In the future, I wouldn’t suggest parents with young children attending such a crowded event. Happy Birthday Singapore!
