Spotted two Striated Herons on solar panel at Orchard Road . Just at the break of dawn on Sunday this morning, there was a heavy down pour. I heard thunders and saw the lightening from the comfort of my bedroom while still in my sleep. For the birds outside, they were drenched to the bone. Luckily, the storm came and went quickly making the Sunday morning looked sunny and clear with the nice sun rays drying up many parts of Orchard Road.

While walking my dog, I saw a pair of juvenile Striated Herons (Butorides striata) near Orchard Central Shopping Center and the Singapore Post Office at Killiney Road. The solar-cell panel is used to power the light to monitor the water level in the Stamford Canal at Orchard Road.

I approached the birds slowly and managed to get quite near while the birds were oblivious to my presence. I used a 300mm lens to get the shots handheld with stabilizer. I observed the drenched birds for more than 15 minutes while they dried themselves on the solar panel.
